:D thank you Dollylama - useful stuff - perfect timing as was just feeling the need to break free of a self-imposed discipline to only use stock from sxc.hu

Added. Thank you!I do believe it was under the US Government list of public domain images, it would be a much longer list if I added all of those separately, but happy to add a few, especially really good ones :)
http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm That one has a lot of good ones ^^
i really needed that .... i had like 5-6 sources websites ... now i guess itll be easier to get good sources
I got the add on cooliris for firefox. it is a very good source for images. :)
Wow this is great! I always have trouble making sure I can find pics...
OK, call me noob but I don't understand how there can be so many entries that contain images of actors and actresses. I can't find any of those images on any site that clearly states it's for public use. Furthermore, if I'm not using the image for personal gain, then who cares where the image came from. Do I have to become paparazzi just to get a picture of Pamela Anderson to cut and paste my wife's head onto?
My favorite place for sources is Wikimedia CommonsThe two web-pages below have really good pictures that they claim are listed as public domain, I would use with caution (maybe use only as fair use applies on ones your not sure about just in case). Actress PicturesActors Pictures
Actors and others in the public eye are fair game. News and publicity shots are good sources.

Even if you are not in this for personal gain, the photographer has a legal right to the image. Worth could get sued even if you don't. That is why we are vigilant and respond to ownership claims very seriously. We also have photographers and artists who see their work stolen after it is posted here. Worth goes after those other sites and individuals with the same enthusiasm.
Got it, thanks for the clarification. I'm still a little fuzzy on what would qualify as a "don't use me photo", since it seems like almost everything in the Animal TV 5 is just alterations of TV promotional advertisements (and since you have to9 have permissions to make the advertisement, wouldn't you need permissions to use the advertisement).I swear photoshop needs to come with it's own virtual lawyer. Does anyone know if there is a "photochecker.com" that you can submit a source image to that will tell you if it's legal? If not, lets make one :)
i hear you.....but look at all those movie posters and magazine celebrity images and company logo and corporate identity photos that are manipulated.i look at like this.......if im not making money on it....ill use it with caution...(with as many changes i can do.)if cash is involved its a whole other ball game.its on the net........if people want to protect their own photos then they should not put them there without "very clear" disclaimers....(high res).....that simple.if we could not use a lot of photographs...im sure this site would not exist.but i dunno.unless worth wants to take down 75% of peoples entries.(but it would be nice if we could if we are not sure).but i would remove the ones i dont like though;->(personally i wind up changing the photo so much its quite unrecognizable.)like the natalie portman shot i used as my avatar.........it does not even look like her anymore.
I didnt know where else to ask, how do you submit entries to a contest. I'm new and dont know a lot about the set up of worth 1000. Thanks!
ON the contest page you will see a box on the right hand side that says "submit an entry." Click that and it opens another page. There you will type in the title of your entry, then hit the browse button to pull up your entry. When it is uploaded, you will get a done remark. Then add some comments if you wish, and then some keywords. Finally, click on the boxes you wish at the bottom. Lastly, click submit. Go to your stats page and you can click on it to view it as everyone will see it, in the contest. If you want to change anything (up until the contest goes to voting), move your cursor over the image, and some boxes will appear on the top of the image. Just click on "edit" and you can change what you want.
cgtextures.com is a great one for textures, Free up to 15MB I think you have to pay after that
please...how can I link my sources to the posted work??
Upload them to your "tools"When uploaded, you'll get a link which you can post in your comment...Same goes for your WIP (work in progress)Also look in the FAQ section for linking and editing stuff(scroll down 2/3 of the page, just above the smilies)
how can you check to see if an image is copyrighted?
check for the creative commons liscense.
how to buy image from the image site?
You need to create your own account in the site you want. And then buy the images you like (usually with credit card) it's quite simple.
How about http://pixabay.com ? All images are public domain and no attribution is required. Also clker.com should be listed here - best really free cliparts collection ever - I'm loving both.Cheers
